World Famous Bob's Java Jive in Tacoma,WA
. This is a building that we have driven past a million times and I always say as we see it from the highway, I gotta get down there and get some photos. Well, afew weeks ago, Andy and I finally did get down to the 'coffee pot' and I got a couple of photos. This is one of them.
The Java Jive was built in 1927 by a veterinarian and was designed by a local artist. This concrete coffe pot stands 25feet high and 30feet around.
The coffee pot was once a drive-thru for food and a speakeasy.
It has served as backdrops in movies such as 'I Love You to Death' and 'Say Anything'.
At one time, there were two chimpanzees that lived within the coffee pots "jungle room". Their names were 'java' and 'jive.
Nowadays, the place is a bit run down (the photo is one I took afew weeks ago) but still has a 'shine' to it as a unique landmark. The Jave Jive has karaoke on certain nights and live bands on weekends. Next time I am down that way, I may just have to go by and see if they are open and hope that they actually do serve cofee!
